About The Author (pet peeve: being asked for George Clooney’s autograph.
I was born at an early age in a log cabin in Brooklyn, New York. I have spent most of my life, however, in Arizona, which is much like New York in that both are states.
I demonstrated an early aptitude for choosing careers that would keep me poor and humble by becoming a cartoonist. Though I had some success, selling to the countries’ top magazines, what I did not realize was that the golden age of magazine cartooning was coming to an end. It was rather like deciding to become a sailor and signing on to be a crew member on the Titanic. In another brilliant economic move, I studied painting in college.
Deciding “why have two non-profit careers when I can have three,” I also became a writer. I received a fellowship to work at the MacDowell Colony where I wrote my first novel which — wait for it — was never published. My short stories, however, have appeared in a number of literary journals. Now my novel SOCKWORLD has sprung upon the eager reading public. If you are a fan of rags-to-riches stories you can help by buying a copy for yourself, and 10,000 copies for friends and relatives.
I know, I know, that is all career stuff. Some of you want more personal information: height, eye color, favorite condiment (lawn ornament, brown, ketchup). Really, there’s not much to tell. As you can see from the picture, I am an old geezer. I live with my dog Milo* in Phoenix, Arizona. Milo is a Labrador “retriever,” or, more accurately, a Labrador “I’ve got it, good luck getting it back.”
* A new pup has joined the household, Osha. (That’s right, I named my dog Occupational Safety and Health Administration, but call her Osha for short).
Announcement: I arrogantly believed that the big event on September 17, 2024 was going to be the publication of SOCKWORLD, however it turned out that there was a much bigger event that day, a blessed event. Julia, who I have called “Little Miss” ever since I started babysitting her when she was an infant, has now had a Littler Miss of her own. Congrats to the proud parents, Julia and Lupito, and welcome to the world Ximena!
(I know, I know, this has nothing to do with the book. GET OVER IT! When you have your own website (and you will) you can do pretty much whatever you want. I suspect that in the near future when parents fill out the name of their babies on birth-certificates they will add a “.com” at the end of the name to reserve the domain name.)
