Welcome to SOCKWORLD!

So glad you’re here! The fact that you are here brings up several interesting possibilities:

1) Everything in your life up until now has led you to this moment. (Unlikely)

2) You had nothing better to do. (Likely)

3) You wanted to find out more about SOCKWORLD.

4) You wanted to find out more about SeaWorld, but spellcheck let you down.

There are countless other possibilities, of course, but whatever your reason, I appreciate that you’re here.

I could tell you all about SOCKWORLD. I won’t tell you a lot, though, because I’m hoping you will read the book and I don’t want to ruin any part of that experience by saying too much, like those movie trailers that show so much of the movie that when they’re over you haven’t any need to watch the movie. What I can tell you, in case you were worried, is that it is not a book about socks, although there are some socks in it. SOCKWORLD is mainly about a boy named Purdy, who lives with his mom in a trailer park, in a small town in southern Arizona. One day he hears a voice that nobody else can hear, and that’s where the adventure begins.

(WARNING: Rampant capitalism ahead) One of the difficult conundrums for writers is that you want people to read what you wrote, but for that to happen they often have to buy it first, which puts you in the uncomfortable position of being a salesperson. I did not write SOCKWORLD for money (See “How SOCKWORLD Started” for the story of why I did write it). I truly don’t care if it makes a dime of profit. (My publisher just had a heart-attack. Someone call 9-1-1!).

What I do hope for the book is that it is read, that the characters that I have grown so fond of find their audience. Ultimately, I hope it makes its way onto library and home library shelves to find itself in the company of heroes of comic literature like Miguel de Cervantes, Jane Austin, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain… That’s the thing about all creative pursuits — you are not competing with the greatest artists that have come before, but they are always there, in the center of the room, speaking loudly, while you stand against the wall sipping your ginger ale.

If you want to buy the book you can click on the Amazon link below, or you can order the book from any of your other favorite booksellers. To help you decide if this is something you’d like to read, I have included a link on the home page where you can read the first chapter (for free!). (Rampant capitalism section has concluded).
